Gameplay – The player may choose to respond positively or negatively to non-player characters throughout the game world, which affects their reputation within the game. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Western -themed action-adventure game, Played from a first- or third-person perspective, the game is set in an open-world environment featuring a fictionalized version of the United States in 1899.
It features single-player and online multiplayer components, the latter released under Red Dead Online, For most of the game, the player controls outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, as he completes missions—linear scenarios with set objectives—to progress the story; from the epilogue, the player controls Red Dead Redemption protagonist John Marston,
Outside of missions, they can freely roam the interactive world. They may engage in combat with enemies using melee attacks, firearms, bow and arrow, throwables, or explosives, and can dual wield weapons. The player can swim as Arthur but not as John.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘ s world features different landscapes with occasional travelers, bandits, and wildlife, and urban settlements ranging from farmhouses to towns and cities.
- Horses are the main forms of transportation, of which there are various breeds with different attributes.
- The player can steal horses and must train or tame wild horses to use them; to own a horse, they must saddle or stable it.
Repeated use of a horse begins a bonding process, increased by leading, petting, cleaning, and feeding it, and the player will acquire advantages as they ride their horse. Stagecoaches and trains can be used to travel; the player can hijack a train or stagecoach by threatening the driver and rob its contents or passengers.
The player may witness or partake in random events in the world, including ambushes, crimes, pleas for assistance, ride-by shootings, public executions, and animal attacks. They may be rewarded when helping others. They may partake in side activities, including tasks with companions and strangers, dueling, bounty hunting, searching for collectibles such as rock carvings, and playing poker, blackjack, dominoes, and five finger filet,
Hunting animals provides food, income, and materials for crafting items. The choice of weapon and shot placement affect the quality and value of meat and pelt, and the player can skin the animal or carry the carcass, which will rot over time, decrease its value, and attract predators.
- Some story moments give the player the option to accept or decline additional missions and lightly shape the plot around their choices.
- They can choose different dialogue trees with non-player characters (NPCs), such as being friendly or insulting.
- If they choose to kill an NPC, they can loot their corpse.
The Honor system measures how the player’s actions are perceived: morally-positive choices and deeds like helping strangers, abiding the law, and sparing opponents in a duel will increase Honor, while negative deeds such as theft and harming innocents will decrease it. Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘ s Dead Eye targeting system allows the player to slow down time and mark targets. Once the targeting sequence ends, the player fires to every marked location in a very short space of time. In addition to health and stamina bars, the player has cores, which affect the rate at which their health and stamina regenerate.
- Freezing or overheating rapidly drains cores, preventable by wearing weather-appropriate clothing.
- The player can gain or lose weight depending on how much they eat; an underweight character will have less health but more stamina, while an overweight character can better absorb damage but with less stamina.
Eating and sleeping replenishes cores. The player can bathe to remain clean and visit a barber to change hairstyles; hair grows realistically over time. Weapons require cleaning to maintain their performance. Using a certain type of gun extensively improves weapon handling, reduces recoil, and increases the rate of reloading.
The player can take cover, free aim, and target a person or animal. Individual body parts can be targeted to take down targets without killing them. Weapons consist of pistols, revolvers, repeaters, rifles, shotguns, bows, explosives, lassos, mounted Gatling guns, and melee weapons such as knives and tomahawks,
The player can use Dead Eye to slow down time and mark targets. Once the targeting sequence ends, they fire to every marked location in a very short space of time. The Dead Eye system upgrades progressively and grants abilities such as targeting fatal points.
- When the player commits a crime, witnesses alert the law; the player can stop them to avoid repercussions.
- Law enforcers investigate once alerted.
- When the player is caught, a bounty is set on their head; as they commit more crimes, their bounty grows higher and more lawmen will be sent to hunt them.
- If the player escapes the law, bounty hunters track them down.
After committing enough crime, the U.S. Marshals will be sent to the player’s location. To escape law enforcement, they can evade the wanted vicinity, hide from pursuers, or kill them. The bounty will remain on their head, lawmen and civilians will be more vigilant, and regions where crimes have been committed will be on lockdown.

Red Dead Redemption is a 2010 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games, A spiritual successor to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver, it is the second game in the Red Dead series. Red Dead Redemption is set during the decline of the American frontier in the year 1911 and follows John Marston, a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a hired gun.
Having no other choice, Marston sets out to bring three members of his former gang to justice. The game is played from a third-person perspective, The player may freely roam in its interactive open world, a fictionalized version of the Western United States and Northern Mexico, primarily by horseback and on foot.
Gunfights emphasize a gunslinger gameplay mechanic called “Dead Eye” that allows players to mark multiple shooting targets on enemies in slow motion, The game makes use of a morality system, by which the player’s actions in the game affect their character’s levels of honor and fame and how other characters respond to the player.

It received critical acclaim for its visuals, music, performances, gameplay, and narrative. It won several year-end accolades, including Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications, and is considered by critics as one of the best video games ever made,
- It had shipped around 23 million copies by 2021, making it one of the best-selling video games,
- After the game’s release, several downloadable content additions were released; Undead Nightmare, later released as a standalone game, added a new single-player campaign in which Marston searches for a cure for an infectious zombie plague,
A prequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, was released in October 2018.
Why is RDR2 set 1899?
What’s the time period in Red Dead Redemption 2? – The story of Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to take place near the end of 19th century, the year 1899 in the American southwest. This time period places the game 12 years before the events of Red Dead Redemption, making RDR2 a prequel to the story of John Marston and the events that would eventually unfold in the fictional areas known as New Austin, Nuevo Paraiso, and West Elizabeth. The 1899 setting is an important factor for a number of reasons: it was a time not long after the formal end of the American frontier, a period when westward advancement drew to a close and workers began settling farms and building towns. Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, and other territories had not yet become formal states, and there were still disputes over who had rights to parts of northern Texas and southwest Oklahoma.
- At least, that’s the case in United States history — Rockstar can and very likely will take liberties to pepper fictional elements into the setting of the game.
- This was an era when automobiles and the telephone had only recently been invented, but their use had not yet become widespread; the United States’ first electric power plant had been created in New York just seven years prior, but electricity in general would remain unavailable to most of the United States for decades to come.
Farming, hunting, and living off the land were still the primary means of life and labor, a notion that plays into Red Dead Redemption 2’s many survival elements, Steam locomotives were at the height of shipping and transportation technology, sheriffs and federal Marshals did their best to prevent war between settlers and Mexicans or Native Americans, and vigilante justice was still commonplace. We don’t yet know just how many of these historical facts will play in to Red Dead Redemption 2. However, they do at least serve to set the stage for Rockstar’s latest Old West-inspired adventure. We’ll get to learn more about how well this information stacks up to the final product when Red Dead Redemption 2 releases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26. Will there be Red Dead 3?
Red Dead Redemption 3 Release Date: Not For A Few More Years – Without an official confirmation or announcement, we can only speculate when the game will be released. However, if we assume that GTA 6 will probably be released sometime around 2025, Red Dead Redemption 3 could be released around 2030.
Is Red Dead 1 and 2 connected?
Red Dead Redemption 2 – For the next chronological entry to the Red Dead franchise, fans need to look no further than the series’ most recent installment, Red Dead Redemption 2, A hugely ambitious and successful title, Red Dead Redemption 2 has a massive amount of substance to its single player story, and resultantly takes place across a wide catchment of time.
- Taking control of beloved protagonist Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption 2 tells the tale of the infamous Van Der Linde Gang, acting as a prequel to the events of the original Red Dead Redemption,
- The title begins in the year 1899, meaning a sizable chunk of time has passed between the title and the aforementioned Revolver and its vague 1880s setting.
The gulf in time between the two titles’ settings is reflected in the locations that the game’s both portray. While the areas of Revolver are limited to small-scale rudimentary wooden towns, Red Dead 2 boasts sprawling and urbanized cities such as Saint Denis, complete with tram systems and impressive concrete buildings.
What year does Red Dead 1 and 2 take place?
Setting – All games in the series take place during the days of the Wild West. Red Dead Revolver takes place at an unidentified point in time during the 1880s, while Redemption is set primarily in 1911 (with the epilogue taking place in 1914), and Redemption 2 is set in 1899 (with the epilogue set in 1907).
While Revolver ‘s aesthetics and atmosphere are reminiscent of the films set during the Wild West, the other two games depict the final two decades of this time period, as new factories, machines, motor vehicles, and modern technology appear all throughout the United States, marking the modernization of society.
In Redemption and Redemption 2, the map undergoes several changes between the two different time periods, such as new houses being built, and NPCs sporting new looks. Red Dead Revolver ‘ s setting is quite transient, as Red moves from town to town throughout the game.
- The most prominent location is the town of Brimstone, which acts as a hub between several missions.
- The game takes place in the United States, in an unidentified region of mostly desert, although some levels also feature a forest or mountain setting.
- Red Dead Redemption offers the player a more significant interaction with the environment, and its location is bigger than in the previous game.
It ranges from canyons to deserts, but the player is unable to reach to the outer limit due to the borders surrounding the area (mountains and deep ravines). There are several towns and settlements that the player can visit, each with their own citizens (with whom the player can interact).
The map spans two fictional U.S. states, New Austin (which is mostly desert) and West Elizabeth (which features lush forests and a mountain area), as well as the Mexican state of Nuevo Paraiso (which is also mainly a desert area). Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘s world is greatly expanded compared to its predecessor’s, and is far more immersive, lifelike and responsive.
Both New Austin and West Elizabeth from Red Dead Redemption make a return, although they have been expanded with new regions and towns, while three new states have been added: Ambarino (which is mostly a mountain wilderness), New Hanover (a wide valley that incorporates multiple small settlements, including the town of Valentine), and Lemoyne (composed of bayous and plantations, and the location of the small town of Rhodes and the large industrial city of Saint Denis).

met Arthur when he was just 14 years old, a particularly damaged and angry young delinquent who had been on the streets ever since losing his parents at a young age. His loyalty to the gang leader has been unwavering in this time, though the recent failed robbery at Blackwater has clearly troubled him. He is sharp, cool-headed, and ruthless, but with his own sense of honor. A man who prides himself on getting the job done.
Is Arthur Morgan mentioned in Red Dead 1?
Fans of Rockstar’s open-world Western series will appreciate this little nod to Arthur Morgan found in the first Red Dead Redemption. Eagle-eyed players of the original Red Dead Redemption have spotted an interesting reference to its prequel’s main protagonist, Arthur Morgan, The connection can be found in one of the newspapers available for purchase in game. This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 John Marston is the much-beloved hero of 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, though he also plays a major role in the prequel.
In Red Dead Redemption 2, players were introduced to Arthur Morgan who, against all odds, also captured the hearts of Red Dead fans with his rough charisma and nuanced character. Arthur’s growth as a character made it all the more gut punching when he died at the end of the story. Like John in the original game, Arthur’s choices come back to haunt him and he ultimately paid for his mistakes with his life.
While John was riddled with bullets from a back-stabbing government official, Arthur slowly succumbed to the terrible disease called tuberculosis which he contracted from one of his own victims. According to a tobacco advertisement in Red Dead Redemption, however, Arthur was only a cigarette away from a cure.
The advertisement claims that those infected by the disease could “disinfect” themselves through “regular” smoking throughout the day. Modern medicine strongly disagrees with this notion, though the advertisement is reflective of the game’s setting; the medical sensibilities of Red Dead’s 1912 America were not quite as developed as they are today.
Indeed, players can force Arthur Morgan to become the heaviest chain-smoker in the West, but Arthur will still fall to the disease that didn’t have a viable cure until 1921. Developer Rockstar Games began preliminary work on Red Dead Redemption 2 while the original game was finishing development.
This most likely means that basic details such as setting, story, and main characters were being solidified before development began in earnest. Since the newspaper in Red Dead is not a major part of the game, it’s possible that this tobacco advertisement was added last-minute as a nod to Rockstar’s upcoming Western hero.
Perhaps Arthur’s plight was inspired by the newspaper clipping. Or, it is most likely that this was just a happy accident. Tuberculosis was one of a thousand dangers people faced in the old West, and Rockstar Games has always created deep and immersive worlds with an astonishing attention to detail.
How old is jack in RDR2?
Jack Marston was born in 1895, making him 4 years old. during the story of Red Dead 2, we see him age from 4. to 12 to 16, and then finally 19 in the year 1914.
Is RDR2 historically correct?
Whilst Red Dead Redemption 2 is not historically accurate, Rockstar’s sprawling cowboy epic may be set in a fictional place but it is firmly rooted in the early 20th century.
How old is Arthur Morgan in RDR2?
A Red Dead Redemption 2 player reminds fans about a surprising detail involving Arthur Morgan and Bill Williamson. Throughout the course of Red Dead Redemption 2, players spend a great deal of time with the various members of the Van der Linde gang as Arthur Morgan, learning their personalities, backstories, and their ultimate fates by the time the credits roll.
One of the Van der Linde gang members that Red Dead Redemption 2 players interact with is Bill Williamson, a returning character from the original Red Dead Redemption, Due to Bill’s appearance, it’s safe to say that many Red Dead Redemption 2 players would assume that he’s one of the older members of the Van der Linde gang,
Bill has lived a rough life by the time of Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘s events, and that trauma combined with his alcoholism has given him an especially rugged appearance. But despite the fact that Bill looks older than Arthur Morgan at first glance, Arthur is actually older than Bill by a couple of years.
- This was recently pointed out by Reddit user G0dleft, and it seems this revelation has taken many fans by surprise.
- During the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur Morgan is about 36 years old, while Bill Williamson is about 33.
- John Marston, the protagonist of the original Red Dead Redemption game, is in his mid-20s during the events of RDR2,
It should be noted that Red Dead Redemption 2 is actually a prequel to the original game, taking place about 12 years earlier. There are rumors that Rockstar Games is looking to make even more Red Dead Redemption titles, and if so, it will be interesting to when they’re set.
- One of the biggest rumors it that a remake or remaster of the original Red Dead Redemption is in the works, and if that rumor turns out to be true, it will be interesting to see how Bill’s character is handled.
- Those who played the original Red Dead Redemption will remember Bill being more of an over-the-top villain than how he appears in Red Dead Redemption 2,
The Red Dead Redemption 2 version of Bill is a more complex and interesting character, so it will be interesting to see those elements taken into account in a potential remake of the first game. Besides a Red Dead Redemption remake or remaster, there are also rumors that Rockstar Games is looking to release a next-gen version of Red Dead Redemption 2 at some point down the line.
- This wouldn’t be surprising in the least, but if it does happen, don’t expect it to contain any substantial new content that would expand on the lives of Arthur, Bill, or any other members of the Van der Linde gang.
- Red Dead Redemption fans may instead have to wait for the eventual Red Dead Redemption 3 to learn more about the characters, but such a project is likely years away, if it ever comes to fruition at all, that is.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a 2018 action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games, The game is the third entry in the Red Dead series and a prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption, The story is set in a fictionalized representation of the United States in 1899 and follows the exploits of outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, who must deal with the decline of the Wild West whilst attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other adversaries.
- The game is presented through first- and third-person perspectives, and the player may freely roam in its interactive open world,
- Gameplay elements include shootouts, robberies, hunting, horseback riding, interacting with non-player characters, and maintaining the character’s honor rating through moral choices and deeds.
A bounty system governs the response of law enforcement and bounty hunters to crimes committed by the player. The game’s development lasted over eight years, beginning soon after Red Dead Redemption ‘ s release, and it became one of the most expensive video games ever made.
Rockstar co-opted all of its studios into one large team to facilitate development. They drew influence from real locations as opposed to film or art, focused on creating an accurate reflection of the time with the game’s characters and world. The game was Rockstar’s first built specifically for eighth generation consoles, having tested their technical capabilities while porting Grand Theft Auto V to the platforms.
The game’s soundtrack features an original score composed by Woody Jackson and several vocal tracks produced by Daniel Lanois, Development included a crunch schedule of 100-hour weeks, leading to reports of mandatory and unpaid overtime, Red Dead Online, the game’s online multiplayer mode, lets up to 32 players engage in a variety of cooperative and competitive game modes.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, and for Windows and Stadia in November 2019. The game received critical acclaim, with praise directed at its story, characters, open world, graphics, music, and level of detail; some criticism was directed at its control scheme and emphasis on realism over player freedom. It won year-end accolades including Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications, and is considered an example of video games as an art form as well as one of the greatest video games ever made,
How old is Dutch in RDR2?
17 Dutch Van Der Linde, 44 – Thanks to the Game of the Year guidebook for Red Dead Redemption, Dutch van der Linde has his age pinpointed to 1855. This would make Dutch 44 by the time of Red Dead Redemption 2, as the game is set in 1899. Dutch’s philosophies and dreams seem to come from his rebellious youth and his adoration of literature, a true oddity to see a literate cowboy and outlaw.
Is Sadie Adler in rdr1?
The Red Dead Redemption series features many characters who are complex and well written, with two of the strongest being compared often. Red Dead Redemption 2 is the prequel to Red Dead Redemption and both mainly take place towards the end of the American Frontier era. Both Red Dead games feature a heavily involved narrative that tasks the player to roam the Wild West, getting into shootouts, and various other dangerous activities to progress the story.
- Along the way, the player will encounter many side characters who would later play a big role in the progress the player makes.
- This would come in the form of potential allies who betray the player later on, or NPCs who the player saves to have them indebted to the player for life.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 tells a gripping story, much like its predecessor.
It isn’t very often this genre of storytelling has strong female characters, but that cannot be further from the truth when it comes to Red Dead 1 and Red Dead Redemption 2, Both games feature a heavy story mixed with characters from all walks of life, many of who are well written and serve the game in various ways.
Who is the main character in rdr3?
Jack Marston is the perfect fit for the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 3 because he would carry on the legacy of his father and his crew. Two charismatic and morally conflicted characters have held the leading roles in Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2, John Marston and Arthur Morgan have both fought for a life in a civilization against them. In the case of a third entry in the series John’s son, Jack Marston, fits the role perfectly.
Does John mention Arthur in RDR1?
I’ve completed the main story and epilogue for RDR2 months ago, and have been playing the “Endless Summer” nightly ever since (when I’m not online). I’ve spent a lot of time at the ranch with the Marston Family. What’s amazing to me is that, even now, I still catch little moments I haven’t seen yet.
Just when I think I’ve seen them all, I see a new one. This little scene took place today at Beecher’s Hope. Jack and Abigail sit in the living room. Abigail is sewing while Jack reads a book. I (John) walk in and join them. – JACK: (sudden) “Arthur!” (Abigail looks surprised) JACK: (remembering) “Arthur! He he saved us!” ABIGAIL: (cautious) “You remember that?” JACK: “Somewhat.
I was little.” ABIGAIL: “Well, yes. Arthur did save us. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him. But your father don’t like to talk about him. (Looks at me) Do you, John?” JOHN: (pause) “No. The past is behind us now. No looking back.” JACK: “Yes, sir.” (Jack gets up and walks out.
I follow him and *greet* him before he steps outside.) JOHN: “You know, I did a little saving you myself.” JACK: (unsure) “Thank you, sir.” JOHN: (pointedly) “You’re my family, boy.” (Jack leaves. I go back to the living room and *greet* Abigail, who is still sewing on the sofa) JOHN: (irritated) “Why would you say that?” ABIGAIL: (awkward) “It’s true, ain’t it?” JOHN: (difficult) “Look I can talk about him it just hurts is all.” – I think the retconned reason (the story reason) that John doesn’t talk about Arthur in RDR1 is because he misses him like a brother, but also because he’s kinda ashamed of the fact that Arthur saved his ass on more than one occasion, and ultimately saved his wife and son.
Arthur gave them the money to flee and start over, which turned out to be money wasted because their new life prospecting in the Tundra failed. They had to return to America broke, taking odd jobs in Strawberry and then Pronghorn Ranch. Arthur’s last dying efforts (in my playthrough) were to save the Marstons, and among his last words were to “not look back.” – TL;DR – John doesn’t mention Arthur in RDR1 because 1) It hurts him to think of Arthur, 2) He’s ashamed that Arthur saved his family, 3) Arthur said to not look back.
- EDIT : To all the people saying ” Arthur wasn’t created until RDR2, that’s why,” you’re missing the point.
- I clarified that this is the STORY reason, not the IRL reason.
- Of course, the IRL reason is that Arthur wasn’t created until RDR2.
- Everyone knows that.
- We’re talking about the retconned reason.
- The point is, the writers didn’t lazily ignore the fact that John didn’t mention Arthur in RDR1.
They addressed it through story and character in many subtle ways to discover, rather than a single throwaway line. Little moments like the one above are worth discussing. It’s part of what makes this such a good game, the excellent writing and that famous attention to detail.

Is John Marston in RDR2?
Red Dead Redemption 2 – During the events of the game in 1899, John is sent scouting ahead of the gang while they flee the Pinkertons, After being attacked by wolves and left stranded in the snow, he is saved by fellow gang members Arthur Morgan and Javier Escuella.
- Once he has recovered, he joins the gang on some tasks before planning and executing a successful train robbery,
- During a failed bank robbery, John is captured and incarcerated.
- Arthur and Sadie rescue him, much to the disdain of Dutch.
- John, like Arthur, becomes increasingly wary of Dutch’s growing paranoia and loss of reason; protective of John’s family, Arthur warns him to leave the gang when the time is right.
John is later left for dead by Dutch during a train robbery but returns to the camp as Arthur is confronting Dutch and Micah. When Pinkertons invade the camp, Arthur and John flee. John returns to his family at Arthur’s wishes. Eight years later, in 1907, John finds honest work with Abigail on a farm, but when John fights back against outlaws threatening him and his employer, Abigail leaves with Jack.
- John works to get her back by earning enough money to buy a property at Beecher’s Hope.
- He builds a ranch with the help of Uncle and Charles Smith, while Sadie provides him with jobs to pay off his loans.
- After Abigail returns, John proposes.
- With Sadie and Charles, John attacks Micah’s new gang, where they find Dutch.
In a Mexican standoff, Dutch shoots Micah, letting John finish him off, before leaving. John and Abigail later get married at their ranch. The game’s final scene shows federal agents Edgar Ross and Archer Fordham observing John’s ranch.
How many years pass after Arthur’s death?
RDR2’s Epilogue Gives Closure (& The Illusion Of A Happy Ending) – Red Dead Redemption 2’s epilogue is long and allows players to control John Marston in the year 1907. It has been eight years since the events in Beaver Hollow and Arthur’s death. Meanwhile, the beginning of the first Red Dead Redemption is only four years away.
During Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘s epilogue players see John trying to find a place in this world that is not focused on robberies or shootouts. He is trying to be a good husband and father. He buys Beecher Hope for Abigail and Jack. Uncle, Charles, and Sadie show up at points in the epilogue to help John with the ranch and his new life.
But in the end, Charles, John, and Sadie go after Dutch and Micah on Mount Hagen for revenge. John and Dutch never got along in RDR2, but Micah is finally killed with Dutch’s help. Dutch then leaves and is not seen until the events of Red Dead Redemption,
- On the mountain, John also finds the remains of all the money from the Blackwater mission that set the game into motion.
- The three split the money and eventually move on.
- This ending may seem like a happy ending, but it is not.
- John going after Micah at the end of the Red Dead Redemption 2 epilogue reveals John’s location to the Pinkertons and prepares for the beginning of the first game, which starts in 1911.

How much game is left after Arthur dies?
Red Dead Redemption seems to take place over the course of a decade, and players may be surprised to learn just how much time passes in the game. One of the best parts of the Red Dead Redemption games is the continuity between the original and its sequel. Both games follow many of the same characters, telling the tales of the infamous Van der Linde gang as they go from roaming outlaws to a disbanded, hunted group of desperate people.
- The second Red Dead Redemption game actually as a prequel to the first, providing fans of the franchise more insight into the workings of the gang before they eventually broke apart.
- This begs the question as to how many years pass between the games — and it turns out that a decent chunk of time goes by.
When players first begin the original Red Dead Redemption, its set in 1911. John Marston’s wife and son are abducted and used as ransom against him, so he is forced to hunt down several of his former associates in order to keep them safe. The game’s epilogue ends in 1914, with Jack Marston avenging his family’s death.
The second Red Dead Redemption game starts in 1899, over a decade before the first game begins, and it mainly follows the adventures of Arthur Morgan, who, like John, became associated with the gang at a young age. The game jumps forward several years following Arthur’s death at the end of Red Dead Redemption 2’s main story, and it’s 1906 by the time the epilogue (starring John Marston once again) starts, so a good seven years have passed.
Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘s epilogue finally ends in the year 1907, eight years after the game’s start and four years before the beginning of the original Red Dead Redemption.
When was Arthur Morgan born?
Sir Arthur Morgan (1856-1916), newspaper proprietor and premier, was born on 19 September 1856 at Rosenthal station, Warwick, Queensland, son of James Morgan and his wife Kate, née Barton, both Irish born. Arthur’s schooling in the Warwick district was cut short when his father bought the Warwick Argus newspaper and printing business on 1 June 1868.
Arthur learned the trade from back room to front office. By 18 he was manager, as his father’s responsibilities in the Legislative Assembly took him away increasingly from 1873. A justice of the peace before he was 20, Arthur became editor and, with his brother, proprietor of the Argus a few months before his father died in 1878.
The paper became a bi-weekly publication from 26 August 1879, and a month later moved into new commodious premises. On 26 July 1880 Arthur married Alice Augusta Clinton at Warwick with Church of England rites. By August 1888 the Argus was asserting that its circulation bordered on one thousand each issue, double that of its competitor, the Examiner and Times,
- Arthur Morgan entered politics at the local level in 1885 when elected to the Warwick Municipal Council; he served as mayor in 1886-90 and 1898.
- On 18 July 1887 he was elected to the Legislative Assembly for Warwick and represented this electorate until 4 April 1896 when he stood aside to allow T.J.
- Byrnes to pursue the premiership via the seat.
He was chairman of the royal commission on local government that year. Morgan regained Warwick on 2 October 1898 at the by-election after Byrnes’s death and, enjoying ‘the confidence of all parties’, served the assembly as Queensland’s first native-born Speaker from May 1899 until September 1903.
- He resigned after a series of dramatic political events surrounding the defeat of the Philp government.
- Labor leader W.H.
- Browne, unable to form a government, recommended that the governor send for Morgan.
- Drawing on support from the ‘Darling Downs bunch’ (seceders from (Sir) Robert Philp), he formed a composite group from farming representatives, liberal progressives and the Labor Party.
When the Morgan-Browne coalition ministry was sworn in on 17 September 1903, one commentator noted that the member for Warwick had before him a particular opportunity for performing ‘a master stroke of statesmanship’. Morgan became premier, chief secretary and secretary for railways.
- The coalition was returned overwhelmingly in 1904.
- It was responsible for the mildly progressive Income Tax Amendment Act of 1904 and introduced the franchise for women in State elections.
- According to T.
- O’Sullivan, Morgan was a dignified, courteous and sensitive man who became ‘thoroughly disillusioned’ by the hurly-burly, factionalism and strife of parliamentary politics.
He relinquished the premiership, accepting the presidency of the Legislative Council from 19 January 1906 after the death of Sir Hugh Nelson, William Kidston became premier. In 1907, about the time he was knighted, Morgan effectively stepped aside as editor of the Warwick Argus,
For nearly thirty years he had followed a moderately liberal political line. Never a member of the Queensland Club, actively identified with agricultural and acclimatization bodies, he compared city people to drones who were simply useful machines for paying taxes. It was the miner, pastoralist and farmer who produced the wealth on which the city people lived and grew fat.
Morgan released his reins on the Argus overtly in 1910 when he ceased to be sole proprietor and became chairman of directors of Warwick Argus Ltd, which was incorporated on 4 June with a capital of £8000. Andrew Dunn and sons bought the paper on 31 March 1914.
- On Kidston’s recommendation, in 1907 the governor Lord Chelmsford reluctantly appointed Morgan—’the lesser evil of the two’, who was still close to politics—lieutenant-governor, by-passing (Sir) Pope Cooper,
- Morgan deputized in 1907 and 1908 during Chelmsford’s absences and, in 1909 and 1914, was lieutenant-governor on the retirement of governors Chelmsford and Sir William MacGregor,
He was still president of the Legislative Council when he died at his Brisbane residence, Clinton, Upper Paddington, on 20 December 1916 after a long illness; he was buried in Toowong cemetery after a state funeral and service at St John’s Anglican Cathedral.
Is Arthur older than John?
The Case For John Marston Beating Arthur Morgan – As previously mentioned, John’s comparatively smaller stature to Arthur puts him at a close-quartered disadvantage, with Arthur’s brawling experience only compounding this. However, the playing-field between the two outlaws is leveled significantly when John Marston’s legendary gunslinging abilities are taken into account.
- While both characters have access to the game’s coveted “Dead Eye” shooting system, Marston’s experience in ranged combat far exceeds that of Arthur’s.
- Engaging in bullet-riddled skirmishes long after the age Arthur Morgan lived up to, the fact that John is thought to be blind in one eye only compounds the superiority of his shooting skill.
To further establish John’s firearm proficiency, he is mentored directly by famous duelist and gunslinger Landon Ricketts during the events of the first Red Dead Redemption, In this way, John would have a significant advantage over Arthur if the two were to ever fight in the conventional cowboy manner of a shootout, purely through his decades of sustained experience and later-life mentorship.
While Arthur himself faces gunslingers in Red Dead 2, none quite come close to the same caliber as Landon Ricketts. Despite this, if Arthur were to ever close the gap in this hypothetical battle, it can be said with a high degree of confidence that his size and bare-knuckle fighting ability would see him gain the edge over his close friend.

Is RDR2 ok for a 14 year old?
Kid reviews for Red Dead Redemption 2 Based on 402 kid reviews January 21, 2023 It’s a brilliant game with a brilliant story. In terms of age rating, PEGI gets quite out of hand with very conservative age ratings. This game is not an 18. There is zero nudity and only infrequent mentions of sex.
The gore is far from gratuitous though slightly mature. If your child is very sheltered then perhaps this fits more of a 14-15 age range. Otherwise, I’d be happy with children even as low as 12 playing this, perhaps 12 year olds should turn off some violence in settings though. In terms of swearing, there is quite a bit, but not enough to make it into a kid’s vernacular.
Seriously, if you are above 15 then this game is nowhere near bad enough for you to be disallowed from playing it. This title has: 5 people found this helpful. April 16, 2022 This game is amazing great graphics and good story I definitely think all ages could play this This title has: 5 people found this helpful.
- March 25, 2023 This game is honestly one of the greatest game I’ve ever played.
- It shouldn’t be 18+ this should be at most a 16+.
- In my opinion your child will have a great time playing this game and I definitely recommend it This title has: 3 people found this helpful.
- September 28, 2022 I can’t express my love for this game.
it really is incredible. the graphics are amazing for a game of its size. my dad bought it when it first came out and when he had completed the story and most of the side missions he let me play. I think I was about 12. all I really did was catch, steal, and buy horses.
I would ride around the map for hours. once I got tired of that, I asked if I could play the story, start the whole game over. (I was 14 by then) this game is truly beautiful, its NOT for kids though. if you’re a good parent I wouldn’t let your kid play this until they’re at least a decently mature 13 year old.
I won’t judge if you let them play at younger but personally I don’t think its a healthy choice. there is a lot of swearing. that’s really what bothers me, one character says the F word WAY to much – SPOILER ALERT – he dies near the half way point in the story.
But after he’s gone you never hear it. – END OF SPOILER – this is another swear that really gets on my nerves and its said regularly through out the game – “gosh darn.” (im assuming you know the swear version of gosh darn) I can handle the regularity of hell and damn but taking god’s name in vain is where I draw the line.
even so, for a game rated 18+ it has a very minimal amount of “sex” and “romance” really any thing sleazy. the “love interest” in the game isn’t disturbing or alarming at all in my opinion, – SPOILER – Arthur had a previous fall out with a woman years before, she contacts him for help twice through out the game.
- It gets weirder and more “romantic” if you will throughout the second mission you do with her.
- Its more funny than “alarming”.
- The two of them are chasing some one around a city and when almost spotted, Arthur is pulled back by the woman resulting in him accidentally pinning her to a wall -awkward silence- later on near the end of the mission she invites you to see a show at the theater, if you agree you’ll see a button at the bottom corner of the screen that says “make a move” if you chose to “make a move” Arthur will make a clumsy attempt to put his arm around her.
like I said, never gets creepy or weirder than what I told you. – END OF SPOILER – Arthur is not a creep, he’s generally a “good” person despite he’s part of a gang. I will say you can choose to do creepy things – like you can give Arthur a bath (like if he gets dirty it will bring his stamina down and it the only way to get him clean) its not the fact that you can give him a bath, its the fact that a lady will nock to the door and ask it you need help.
You can say yes or no, if you say no she’ll go away and if you say yes she’ll come in and “help” you. when he baths you never see anything, its obvious he doesn’t have anything on but it never gets scandalous. in the bar they’re are women in their “underwear” (just like a jumpsuit with shorts and low chest) you do see a bit of cleavage but the creepiness really depends on the player, you could get real close with the camera but if your not a pervert than you’ll be good.
one of the women in the camp dose have large breast (not like that’s a problem) but like I said if your not a pervert im sure you’ll be fine. in one cut sene you see abstract paintings of naked women. you meet the painter in a bar and he makes some comments about sex and women that may be offensive.
Latter you meet him dresses as a women for disguise. I haven’t come across anything else sexual. pleas know that there is so much more to the game than I am telling you. the gore doesn’t bother me but it might bother others, this game is practically made up of gun fights. (at least the story line is) you will shoot and kill people.
its part of the game. just because I kill people in a video game doesn’t mean I would kill some one in really life and it doesn’t mean I enjoy killing the people in the game. please don’t stop your kid from playing this because you think its to violet.
- Your kid is not a heartless monster, (I guess you would know though) im not telling you not to trust your parenting, if your kid is just running around killing people and enjoying it then you probably should tell them to give it a rest.
- This game is graphic when it comes to violence, its bloody, I think there are two gangs you meet in the gang that are cannibalistic, there is a serial killer you can catch (only if you chose to though) silent kills will be necessary to complete the game (using knives, arrows, tomahawks.) drinking isn’t too bad.
though one of the first missions you do is you go into town with one of your gang members and get insanely drunk. its pretty funny really. but that’s the most drinking you see in the game.- HUGE SPOILER – (KEEP SCROLLING UNTILL YOU SEE BOLD LETTERS) if your kid is afraid of illness I wouldn’t go this wrought, Arthur gets tuberculosis towards the end of the game.
I swear, when he started coughing I stopped playing for months on end. god its so sad, but you really start so see a change in him when he knows he won’t have much longer to live. this is where the “great message” and “great role models” comes in – Arthur realizes life is short and should be lived to its fullest, (doing good deeds instead of killing and stealing lol) he realizes what he’s been chasing all his life (money) has no meaning in the end.
he is helpful every chance he gets and he gives nearly all his money to people who need it. he struggles with guilt for the pain he’s caused and fear of leaving the world behind. – END OF HUGE SPOILER – by the end of the game i’m sure you will have fallen in love with Arthur Morgan.
- Graphics are incredible for a game of its size, the maps is incredibly large, and you can literally do anything you want.
- You can steal, kill, talk to random people on the street, rob nearly any house you come across, kill and skin animals, there are side missions you can do, and stranger missions you can come across.
also there are “chance encounters” those are fun too. there are endless things to come across, rock carvings, rare horses, legendary animals, hidden treasure, bounty hunting, secret inscriptions, a vampire, special items, exploration is endless. you don’t even have to do any of the story to have a good time.
the story line is unbelievably well written, Arthur Morgan is also very well put together, his character has depth, and you get to see him change through out the game. this game is like a movie that you get to control, there are literally 4 separate endings depending on your choices as Arthur Morgan.
I wanted to give an honest review but I don’t want it to be hard for you to look past the cons of the game. this game really helped me out when I was in bad place mentally. if you don’t want your kid playing, (and I think this is a wise thing to do) buy the game and play it for your self.
- Just please give it a chance its worth it I promise.
- This title has: 3 people found this helpful.
- August 1, 2022 RDR2 is hands down the best and most detailed game I have ever played in my entire life.
- The blood and gore is responsible and not over the top like lot’s of games these days.
- Swearing is kept discreet throughout the game.
Most frequent vulgar language are “s**t” and “c**k sucker”. I haven’t come across anything disturbingly sexual, only references to sex and prostitution.3 people found this helpful. April 20, 2022 Beatiful world, engaging story and realistic/interesting characters 3 people found this helpful.
- August 9, 2022 RDR2 is an amazing game, great story, memorable characters, amazing development, and the world you can explore is rich with stories and secrets to discover.
- The game is very accurate to the time period, and has lots of mature themes.
- It tackles some themes of racism, women’s suffrage, etc.
that you would see in 1899. The gore can be very graphic, with body dismemberment when shooting people and some secrets and areas having very gory scenes. Swearing is commonplace, and the N word is said at one point, like I said, accurate to the time. RDR2 does have mature themes, but also tackles them in mature ways with lessons to be learned.
- It has punishments for committing crimes, and the protagonist, Arthur Morgan, does understand how terrible of a person he is for all the wrongdoing hes done.
- Its first mature children, so frankly much younger children could play it, just ensure they are mature and understand the realism of the game This title has: 2 people found this helpful.
March 5, 2023 Amazing story! It’s written very well and each character that you see often is also well written (I got attached to many of them) This title has: 1 person found this helpful. March 3, 2023 Nothing in this game is that bad, one sex scene and some sex references, there’s gore but it’s nothing worse than any call of duty, a bit of swearing but the main reason I say it a adult game is because it’s so heart breaking and I can guarantee you will cry, it makes you feel so empty at the end 1 person found this helpful.
- February 11, 2023 As it is habitual talking about Rockstar Studios, each of their releases are masterpieces that i personally think that gives some important knowledge of the life.
- This is even more reliable talking of this chase, the Rdr2 is full of realities from those times, and it’s also a very enjoyable game.
Obviously, this Age classifications should be used by parents as a subjective opinion, not all the kids of 12 are prepared to play Rockstar games as not all 12′ o kids could enjoy “Peppa pig interactive game”. This title has: 1 person found this helpful.
Is Arthur Morgan a good guy?
Personality –
” | There’s a good man within you. But he is wrestling with a giant. | „ |
~ Mary to Arthur. |
Arthur is presented as a cold, wrathful and brooding outlaw, who is fully willing to resort to threats and violence if somebody angers him. Although he seems like a despicable person at first, while showing no remorse whatsoever for the people he has killed.
It is proven throughout the story that Arthur is actually a good person deep down, who holds many regrets about the life he chose. This included not being able to stay with and marry his former lover, Mary Linton, due to her family rejecting him because of his life as an outlaw. While having low honor, Arthur can be portrayed as an aggressive, cold, callous, selfish, and even sadistic person who has absolutely no qualm about doing some of the worst things that he is capable of: killing innocent townspeople, abusing animals and verbally abusing his fellow gang-members to name a few.
During the loansharking missions set by Leopold Strauss, Arthur can ruthlessly extort and harm the debtors who owe the gang money (as he did with Thomas Downes). The player can ultimately determine Arthur’s morality via their choices which directly affect Arthur’s honor rating.
- One notable trait about Arthur’s character was that he was never interested in, nor motivated by the concept of revenge.
- As throughout the course of the game, he states it to be an idiot’s game, and had no interest in getting payback on Angelo Bronte or Leviticus Cornwall.
- However, Arthur can also go back on this by going back for the money, with the intention of facing Micah and Dutch.
Arthur can still be portrayed as selfish and hurtful, interested in retrieving the gang’s money rather than helping John escape to his family. Despite his low-honor character being significantly more villainous, Arthur still does retain some of his standards and redeeming qualities, such as wanting to help John Marston and his family escape the Van der Linde gang’s downfall.
He also still despised loansharking, despite being very intimidating and harmful to the debtors. Regardless of high or low honor, Arthur will still exile Leopold Strauss from the gang after suffering a conscience crisis. Arthur also comes to accept his fate and that his death is impending, although his tuberculosis diagnosis can still present him a chance to try and change for the better.
Arthur is irreligious, although he does appear to believe in some form of afterlife.
How old is Arthur in Red Dead 1?
Arthur died at age 35 or 36, from tuberculosis.

The game is presented through first- and third-person perspectives, and the player may freely roam in its interactive open world, Gameplay elements include shootouts, robberies, hunting, horseback riding, interacting with non-player characters, and maintaining the character’s honor rating through moral choices and deeds.
How old is John Marston in rdr1?
Red Dead Redemption: How Old Is John Marston? – After the government agents leave the premises, Abigail and Jack return to bury John. They place a wooden cross over his grave that reads ” Loving Husband and Father. Blessed are the Peacemakers,” John’s birth year is carved directly above the eulogy and is revealed to be 1873.
RDR takes place over one year, in 1911. That means John was 38 years old when he died in the original Red Dead Redemption, Since RDR2 begins in 1899, John would have been 26 years old during the game’s opening scenes. The most recent release concludes in 1907, which makes John 34 years old at the end of RDR2, only four years away from meeting his untimely end due to how notorious the failed heist in Blackwater made him and the rest of the Van der Linde gang.
Both Red Dead Redemption entries have tragic but fitting ends. The stories unravel at the tail end of the 20th century when major cities – like Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘s Saint Denis – are growing exponentially, and law and order are spreading across the Western frontier.
How long after Red Dead 2 is Red Dead 1?
RDR2’s Epilogue Gives Closure (& The Illusion Of A Happy Ending) – Red Dead Redemption 2’s epilogue is long and allows players to control John Marston in the year 1907. It has been eight years since the events in Beaver Hollow and Arthur’s death. Meanwhile, the beginning of the first Red Dead Redemption is only four years away.
- During Red Dead Redemption 2 ‘s epilogue players see John trying to find a place in this world that is not focused on robberies or shootouts.
- He is trying to be a good husband and father.
- He buys Beecher Hope for Abigail and Jack.
- Uncle, Charles, and Sadie show up at points in the epilogue to help John with the ranch and his new life.
But in the end, Charles, John, and Sadie go after Dutch and Micah on Mount Hagen for revenge. John and Dutch never got along in RDR2, but Micah is finally killed with Dutch’s help. Dutch then leaves and is not seen until the events of Red Dead Redemption,
On the mountain, John also finds the remains of all the money from the Blackwater mission that set the game into motion. The three split the money and eventually move on. This ending may seem like a happy ending, but it is not. John going after Micah at the end of the Red Dead Redemption 2 epilogue reveals John’s location to the Pinkertons and prepares for the beginning of the first game, which starts in 1911.
