While YUMI seeks to support BAME people living in York in gaining a sense of belonging and greater confidence and to strengthen community cohesion by increasing connections between cultures, we belong to a network of BME support groups whose work focuses on addressing other issues.
YREN – York Racial Equality Network YREN provides an independent, impartial, information, support and advocacy service for people who are experiencing racial harrassment, victimisation, or discrimination.
RAY – Refugee Action York RAY works with and for asylum seekers and refugees in and around the City of York.
Filipino Community in York The FCY’s vision is to promote, and preserve the Filipino cultural heritage among its members in York.
York Travellers’ Trust The Travellers’ Trust is an advocacy and advice service for Travellers who live on the 3 allocated sites in the city.
York Japanese Families Association Organises informal get-togethers for Japanese families.
York Indian Cultural Association YICA promotes Indian culture and faiths through events and festivals.York
Irish Association The York Irish Association celebrates Irish culture and tradition and seeks to bring together Irish people living in York, anyone living in York with Irish descendants and York residents with an interest in all things Irish.
Centre for Applied Human Rights Based at the University of York, the CAHR is a teaching and research environment focused around the role of human rights defenders in the modern human rights system. The Centre is currently running the York Human Rights City Network. The YHRCN project seeks to create a culture of rights amongst citizens, businesses and York City Council, making York the UK’s first Human Rights City.

Education and Learning
English Conversation for Women is a voluntary group offering practice in English conversation to women from all over the world who live in York and who do not speak English as a first language.
Yesonline is an English language training & support social enterprise based in York. By working in partnership with local organisations, the group is able to to create the right training & support, which recognizes the individuals’ background and needs.
Centre for Global Education is based at York St John’s University. CGE aims to provide support, challenge, training and learning opportunities that allow interactive involvement with a variety of global educational projects and events.
York Learning is a City of York Council department. It provides a service to all York residents who wish to access learning & work advice, training & education opportunities & support to get back into work, as well as learning for pleasure & for personal development.
