I came to Yorkshire ( Ryedale ) in 1994. I had worked as a carpenter in Japan, but when I came to England, I found that joiners do all the woodwork and I did not have experience of joinery. So, I had to go to York College to retrain; studying English style woodwork ( Bench joiner and cabinet making ) between 1996-1999. I then moved to York in 2002.
I knew YUMI from 2007 but actually joined and started volunteering from 2009. First of all , I joined the Cooks’ group and I received Food and Hygiene training through YUMI. I then volunteered as a cook

at the YUMI Street Festival in the centre of York, specializing in Japanese cuisine. The following year, I joined the team at the YUMI community garden and helped to build a new garden shed and raised beds. Since then, I’ve volunteered to provide catering for the Garden Open Day twice  and I helped to build portable raised garden beds for YUMI Festival in York centre in 2013.
I’ve now joined YUMI International Craft group …to learn new skills (sewing , paper craft ,etc…).
