Everyone has a story to tell. The experiences of newcomers and immigrants in our culturally diverse city are an important part of our collective story.
Come explore your creative voice through a series of FREE writing workshops and weave your story into the thread of York’s historic cultural tapestry. The workshops will be facilitated by a Canadian who is herself a recent newcomer to the city.
Voices of the City, will bring people together through the power of the written word. These gatherings offer a friendly and safe space where community members can explore their experiences, as newcomers to York, and express themselves through creative writing. York residents from all cultural backgrounds are invited to connect, build friendships and learn from each other.
Through the workshops we will be working towards collecting written pieces for an anthology so you may get your work published!
Please note this is an adult event, offering adults the space to think and write freely. You are welcome to bring children along with you as long as you feel you will be able to engage in the session as well as look after your child. If you are bringing a child please ensure you bring books/toys/snacks to keep your child entertained. If a child is distracting the parent or other attendees we trust that you will respect the spirit of the workshop.
For this session we’ll be meeting in the Sky Lounge, upstairs at City Screen. Head to the first floor and the sofas opposite Screen 2 at the end of the long corridor.
